The first new plant for 2009

Day 2 of the new year and I bought a new plant! I went to Lowe's with hubby this morning, and I just happen to walk into the nursery section (which is pretty void of plants right now) and saw this beautiful Tuscan Blue Rosemary. I knew it was perfect for the flagstone patio.
Because the sun is shinning in this picture, you probably can't tell, but the foliage is a dark, bluish green. The spires are thicker than the other 2 rosemary's I have. I came home and looked this type up on the Internet and this is what I found on the Magnolia site about this type of rosemary:
"Tuscan Blue' is a large evergreen, upright Rosemary with a good flavor making it an excellent culinary herb, or a landscaping shrub. Flowers are larger than other varieties .
Rosmarinus officinalis 'Tuscan Blue' is part of our Plants For Texas® Program, meaning it was Texas Grown, Tested in Texas to perform outstanding for Texas Gardens."
I think this is a keeper..and doesn't it look great beside the old red chair?
I hope you had a wonderful day today!

Yup, it sure does look good next to the tulip chair. Your rosemary is a keeper and what a deal. Glad you had such a wonderful day-me too!

Good for you!! Ok, remember -- I'm plant challenged -- so being a Rosemary, will it also add extra scent too? That would be so cool!!

Glad you like the plant too Tina. How is the weather where you are? It's so pretty here I am spoiled! :)

jj--you are correct! Rosemary has a wonderful fragrance and this one is no exception. I love to brush it as I walk by. Makes me want grilled chicken cooked with rosemary. YUM!!

Absolutely wonderful day for spending in the garden; which is exactly what I did! Thanks for asking.

I think Rosemary is such a great plant! Pretty blooms, evergree and pretty much low maintenance and you just can't beat that smell.

Are you going to leave it in the pot or do you think you will plant it eventually? I had one in GA that was in the ground and was at least 4' tall and as wide.

Very pretty. It looks lovely on the patio in the pot too(-: It is nice to get a plant for the new year.
I have some rosemary growing in my raindeer topiaries. It makes a nice topiary planting too!!!(-: That is if you don't have cows that break in the yard and eat it. Oh well it will grow back(-:
I am in the need of a new New Years plant too(-: Tomorrow I am going to go out and about. Hopefully there won't be as many shoppers around(-:

Gorgeous plant. I love the tulip chair. I've wanted a pair since I can't remember.

That is a great rosemary. Hey, where did you get that great red chair?

I love this plant! It's easy to propagate too. It'll even start in water. Just take a cutting 6" long or so, cut the tip off and strip most of the bottom leaves off. Leave in cup of water several weeks. After you see roots, start in small pots.

I've had near 90 percent success starting this plant. I now have bushes throughout my landscape. Great gifts too. :)

Just beautiful. If our Lowe's had any plants at all, I would most likely be buying one. I definitely have the January itch to grow something.~~Dee

Good Morning everyone!

Glad you spent the day in the yard too Tina. We are having beautiful weather here!

Susie-you have brought up a very good question. For now, I am leaving it in the pot. I don't know what to do. Will rosemary's grow in pots ok? Hum...anyone reading this comment have some thoughts??

Cindee--I laughed reading your comment about cows breaking in. We just have opossums, squirrels and raccoons. I think rosemary is deer resistant though.
I hope you find a good new plant. Be sure and post and let us know.

Thanks Lola--I LOVE my red chair too. Wish I could find another one.

Debbi-I bought the red chair in McKinney. It was sitting outside one of the stores. Actually, I see quite a few of these type of chairs everytime I go to McKinney. I wanted red, so was really excited to find this one. The price was pretty good too.

Garden4life--thank you SOOOOO much for that information!! I will defintely start new plants. Maybe you could help with the question from Susie: can I leave this in the pot, or do I have to plant it in the ground? I would love for the pot to stay on the patio if possible (it gets good sun there)

Hi Dee--our Lowe's did not have hardly anything..and they only had about 6 of these. I get so depressed going to the garden centers this time of year. When spring hits, my heart just pounds when I drive up and see all the plants! :)

Meadowview I think it will do fine for a while but you will probably need to repot into a larger container eventually.

It looks wonderful next to your old red chair (which I love by the way)! Great place to be able to enjoy the wonderful aroma too. :)

Thanks Racquel. I will enjoy smelling that wonderful scent as I sit on the patio!

Oh yes, it looks spring-like next to that chair! I absolutely have to have rosemary in my garden. Love their aromatic stems!

very nice find at the garden center for the middle of winter. i really love that you can use it in your cooking, will you>? i love the colour and next to the old red chair is perfect.

Marmee-there was not much at the garden center. It looks so sad and bare. I love rosemary in cooking. I usually harvest then dry, but I think it may be better fresh. I wonder if this kind will have a different taste?
