Thanksgiving

It's quiet in the house. My husband has gone to the airport to pick up our daughter. The table is set, the turkey is in the frig, groceries have been bought. I will work again tomorrow then start to prepare for Thanksgiving on Wednesday. Our gathering is small, there will be only 7. As I walk through the now silent house, I think of days past and days yet to come.

I remember when my Mother passed these dishes on to me. The dishes from my childhood that I loved so much.

I remember when the house was never quiet, but full of excitement and so much energy.

"Thanks-
giving is a time to reflect on the changes, to remember that we, too, grow and change from one season of life to another. Thanksgiving is a time of changing seasons, when leaves turn golden in Autumn's wake and apples are crisp in the first chill breezes of fall. Let us remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving. As we see the beauty of Autumn, let us acknowledge the many blessings which are ours... let us think of our families and friends.. and let us give thanks in our hearts."

And I think back over this past year and as I count my many blessing, I include all of you. You have taught me, entertained me and inspired me. I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Blessings,
Linda

What a nice post. I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving too. 7 is quite a few too. That is about what we are having. I love your colors in the dishes and wish I was as far along in preparations as you are! I have to stay out of the garden first:( Take care.

What a beautiful, heartfelt post; thank you. I feel the same; I am truly thankful for each person that's touched my life.
Your mother's dishes are beautiful; I'll bet they could tell a wonderful story if they could talk! It is wonderful that you are using them, and adding to the memories already there! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

And a HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you, Linda. Yes, it's a time to reflect on how fortunate we all are to live in a free country.
I love the way you have decorated for the holidays. That candle holder on your table is gorgeous. Where in the world did you find it? I really like unusual things.

Dawn--thanks. Yes, I remember the kids table! That was the kitchen table. Now we put the food on that table and everyone eats in the dining room.

jj-family memories...sigh...
precious memories indeed.

Susie--glad you liked the dishes. They are very special to me. The village is the fall version, I'll take some away and add some more for Christmas. (it's the little girl in me!) :)

Tina--I am so crazy..I have a list of what to do when and try and stick to it. Tomorrow is the BIG cooking day! And I will love every minute! :)

Nola--oh the stories those dishes could tell!! (am I blushing??)
I treasure them so much--for all the memories they have, and all they hopefully will have.

Isaid--thank you so much for the compliment on the table! I really enjoy decorating..and really like a country look. The candle holder was a gift from my best friend and I think she got it at a store called Kirklands. I am trying to decide how I can change it up for Christmas. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I like your dishes very much. Those items from childhood touch our hearts. My house is quieter than it once was, but we still have babies under foot.~~Dee

I'm almost there Raquel! Pies are baked, turkey is baked, cornbread for dressing is baking--now I just have to put it all together tomorrow! :)

Glad you like the dishes Dee. They are so special to me.

BTW--the roses (from your post) are absolutely breathtaking! I knew you had roses, but WOW, I did not realize you had that many. I can just imagine how wonderful it must be to stroll through your garden. Happy Thanksgiving!

Nice nostalgic thoughts and pretty table setting.
Times change, you are very right. Some seasons there is a full house and sometimes it quiets down.
Our adult sons come over for Thanksgiving, which we love.

Terra, the holidays are different for us now that the kids are grown--but an adult Thanksgiving and Christmas are pretty nice! I love having the kids home and all being together!
Hope your Thanksgiving was good!
