Flea Market Finds

My best buddy and I made the one hour drive to Canton for First Monday today. It got this name (I think) because it is always held the weekend before the first Monday of a month. It use to start on Friday and end on Monday, but I have heard it is now opening on Thursdays. I wish I could have gone on Thursday because it was packed shoulder to shoulder with people today! We got to the exit at 8:40am and it was already backed up! Ugh..but it was still a fun day.

I bought a new bird house to hang on the fence..

..and a little bird to live inside with me--perhaps on the window sill so he can look out.

Here are a few more of the things I bought..

We shopped until noon, grabbed a baked potato for lunch and finished with Taylor's homemade ice cream. I normally like to find something for the garden, but this time of the year the vendors concentrate on holiday items. Spring is the perfect time to shop for gardening items, so looks like we will need to make another trip in a few months. I just know I need another rusty pail or two to plant with spring flowers!

I love flea markets. Your cute little bird is sweet. Where are you going to put it?

Hi Tina--I think I will put the little bird on my kitchen window sill. This is probably strange, but I love to "decorate" my kitchen window (really it's the dining area part of the kitchen.) It looks out on the back with a tree right in front when I hang bird feeders.

That is my all time favorite flea market! My grandmother used to set up a booth there when I was a kid, she is an antiques dealer. Me & my brother grew up exploring the grounds of First Monday! ;) Great finds! I'm crazy about birdhouses too.

That's right--I remember you lived in East Texas as a child! I bet you wouldn't even recognize the fair grounds now. It is hugh--lots of covered arbors filled to the brim with shoppers. It was almost too crowded for me yesterday. But, you find the best "stuff" there-I love going.

Hi Susie--I have the perfect place for the cute little bird, but I may wait until after the holidays to set her out. I love to have something new and fun to put out after Christmas.

Nola and I were going to meet one another there this month. But the poison ivy took over... Maybe we'll see you there some time. I've only been once since I moved to this area almost four years ago. Love your birdie and birdhouse!

Kitchen windows are great for decorating or rooting cuttings. Mine is full of cuttings being rooted in water. A big oak tree outside displays a squirrel feeder & a large fern hanging from a limb.

Brenda--I am so sorry you are still suffering with the poison ivy!! It was sure crowded Sat--I think best time to go is Thurs or Fri. Glad you like the birdhouse--we need to hang it on the fence for my little friends!

Hi lola! I have cuttings in the window from time to time too. Also, in the summer, I have little tiny vases with flowers sitting on the window ledge. It seems to frame the Bradford pear tree right outside the window. I have so much fun and enjoyment with this window! :)

I love all the "treasures" y'all found. Y'all had a double whammy as far as crowds out there -- #1: AMAZING weather and #2: First weekend of Nov is traditionally the busiest for holiday shopping since the odds are better for good weather than the first weekend of Dec :-)

I've been wanting to get to Canton for years! It would make a great girls' getaway ... finding the time is the problem. I'll bet it's even more crowded than usual at this time of year!

JJ--Double whammy was right! Soooo crowded--but--sooooo much fun!!

Hi Cindy--it would make a great girls weekend, and if you could go on Thurs or Friday you would avoid all the traffic. Spring is another great time to go, but Apr and May are pretty busy times. I can only go on Sat, so I go really early.

Hi Marmee-glad you liked my finds. Everyone seems to love the little bird. He just called out to me. He is so sweet-I need to give him a name!

Gotta love a flea mkt, we have our regular places and then we are on pins and needles come spring when all the others open.

Hi Dawn--Canton is open every month, although I guess vendors could choose not to come. There are so many covered areas now, unless we have lots of time, we never make it outside to the fair grounds. There is some pretty cool "treasures" there too!
