Pansies!!

I have been looking forward to "Pansy Saturday" for a long time! I headed to my favorite garden center early Saturday morning and filled the back of my SUV full of sweet smelling pansies! Do ya think I bought enough?
I usually plant pansies in front..all along both sides of the front flower beds, grouping them on either side of the entrance.

They always look so sparse when I first plant, but I know in early spring, they will be beautiful.
I bought one flat of cute little violas. A few go in the containers on either side of the porch. The remaining flowers will be planted in an old bucket on the flagstone patio next week some time.
The pansies were on sale, and who can resist a sale..so I bought enough to plant some in back. I thought a few would be pretty around the pond.
On a bleak winter day it will be nice to look out and see a little color around the rocks.
I filled 2 old baskets with a few remaining flowers and proceeded to plant the wheel-
barrow. I hated to take out the coleus and sweet potato vine, but I wanted to get it done before we get our first freeze.

I never cease to be amazed to see the "potato" when I dig up the sweet potato vine. Wonder if I could save these and start a new plant? Anyone know?
I always enjoy planting the wheel-
barrow. It is one of my favorite old
"treasures" in the garden. I mixed in 2 different types of ornamental kale and a birdhouse along with the pansies in this container.
When I plant pansies each fall, I use a combination of bone meal and blood meal as I plant..and I add a small sprinkle of fertilizer as well. Just like to give them a boost.

So I can check planting pansies off my list of things to do.
Next weekend's project: Bulbs!!!

I love all your displays, but have to admit, my heart belongs to the wheelbarrow :-) Looking forward to all your new blooms!!!!

Your wheelbarrow is really cute Linda. Glad you got your pansies on sale. We are fixing to have a big sale at work.

I think you can keep your sweet potatoes and plant next year.

JJ--yeah...my heart belongs to the wheelbarrow too. One of the only things we have left that Daddy bought! I think he would approve (laugh, but approve!) :)

Susie..really..you think I can plant the potatoes? I am going to try it. Do I cut them in half..or just stick in the ground? What fun! Thanks!

Good morning! Pansy Saturday? Love it! I only bought a very few this year and I know I'll miss them come spring. You can't have too many. I have the same wheelbarrow. I finally found one at a roadside stop. $1 was a steal. I bought two though the other one is slightly different. I put some bulbs in there but I'm not sure how they'll do. It seems it dries out so quickly.

Not sure why you haven't seen any monarchs. They might all be here:)

I'm planting pansies here, too. I always plant them on either side of the front door, too. What type of edging do you have, it looks like you were able to bend it; that is what I need, because my soil spills out onto the sidewalk each time I water.

I love pansies and the way they can be tucked in here and there.

Hi Tina! I wish I had more wheelbarrows! (hubby would faint hearing that!) :)
Planting bulbs in them is a great idea! I am anxious to get the bulbs in the ground, but we can't do that too early here. We had a nice cold front come through last night..so next weekend should be a good time for bulb planting.

Nola, I'll send you an email too, but we do have that bendable kind of edging. (from HD or Lowes-can't remember) It is not the prettiest, but it does work well around corners. The flowers will fall over it a bit. I would really like stone edging....sigh..maybe someday! :)

Barbee--you are so right about tucking pansies! And that is exactly what I did in back. I like it so much, I may buy a few more after I plant bulbs to tuck here and there. I just love, love them!! :)

Linda, the pansies look very happy to be in your garden! I must go buy some this weekend to go in my wheelbarrow out front. And I've got several birdhouses that need a place to call home ... I'm going to borrow your idea and put one in the wheelbarrow, too!

Hey Linda,

It has been cold here too! We are getting that same cold front. It's also been cloudy and some rain so it looks and feels like the middle of winter.
