The Kitchen

If I can't be outside in the garden, I want to be in my kitchen. Several years ago we took down the wallpaper and painted the kitchen a buttery yellow. It is so bright and cheery. My goal is always to bring the outside in, and I felt like I accomplished that with the breakfast room part of the kitchen.
At that time, we decided to just leave the counter tops with the beige laminate . And I liked it just fine, but after 25 years of wear and tear, we needed to replace them. This was not an easy job for me--I am terrible at picking out things and making decisions. We knew we wanted granite, but there are way too many colors to choose from for me. We spent 2 months (yes, really!) looking at slabs and narrowing it down to 2 colors. It took 3 weeks to finally decide between the 2 colors, but we made our decision and are very happy with the results!
It is very hard to take a picture of granite-there is always a glare, but here are a few pictures of the "new" kitchen. The granite is New Venetian Gold. The back splash is tumbled marble Torreron. I used 4 x 4 tiles set straight with a rope border, then tiles set on a diagonal above.
I got a new sink--that is so deep!! Love the sink!
The faucet is new, and I even got a new coffee maker!
This is the area around the stove top. No back splash here, just a yellow wall. We thought this New Venetian Gold would go well with the brick, and we were not disappointed!

This project has taken lots of time and thinking and decision making, and we are glad it's over and turned out so well. And now...it's time to get back out in the garden!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Thanks Cindee! Because of the look of granite, I couldn't use some of my things. I probably had too much of a cluttered look anyway--time to clean it up. :)
Have a good weekend!

We are so glad to get this over mr-but you are right about the sense of accomplishment. It was a big item to check off our wish list!

It looks wonderful; the color is perfect. I love the view from your sink, you can see out into the yard! I have a tough time making decisions, too, so change is slow to happen at my house.

You have a beautiful kitchen. I love the glare from the shiny granite. I bet it will wear well too. I truly love the wainscotting in the dining area too. Very beautiful!

I love your kitchen Linda, it is very homey. A place I would feel very comfortable sitting and having a cup of coffee. The new countertops really look great with the cabinets and buttery yellow walls. You have wonderful taste! :)

I'm so glad you posted pictures. Your descriptions were great, but OH MY GOODNESS!! this is wonderful. You definitely accomplished having the outdoors in when you can't leave the house. I'm glad you took your time to get it just like you wanted it.

Hi Nola--I also like the view from the kitchen. Wish I could make decisions quicker, but I have never been able to do that! :)

Thanks Tina. I hear you will never replace granite...which in a way is alittle scarey. Guess that is one reason it took me so long to decide what to do!

Racquel, you are so sweet! Wish you could come sit in my kitchen and visit. We'd have good coffee and muffins! :)

Thanks JJ--we are really pleased with the way everything turned out. (but glad it's over!) :)

Girl, I am in love with your new kitchen. I felt right at home just looking at those pictures! You did an excellent job at picking out the color. Do you think you could take a trip to my house and decorate my kitchen for me? It is so blah! Did you add the brick archway over your stove top too? That is sooooo nice!!!

Thanks so much Susie! You are really kind to say all those nice things! We did not add the brick archway-it was like that when we bought the house 25 years ago. The builder put this design in all the houses he did in our neighborhood. I'm glad you think the color is ok--we really debated about what to use! :)

Great choice! I look forward to changing to granite one day. It looks so clean and smooth. You did good in your choices of color. Isn't it nice when all the hard work comes together. It took Alex 5 years to make new cabinets and counter tops, but when it was done it was worth the wait. Have a great spring break! It should get warm again so you can get back outside!

Thanks Sunrise Carlina! We waited a long time for granite..and it took forever to decide on color, but I like what we choose!
Have a great time on your trip-- I want to see pictures when you get back!
