The other side...

After cleaning up the left side of the backyard, I hated seeing the mess going on in the bed on the right side.  Because of the strong wind, the wildflowers were falling over-almost laying down at places.  However, what really started the clean up in this bed was the fact that I pulled the Texas Star Hibiscus out of the pond, put it in a container, and needed a place to put it.  As I looked around, I decided the corner of this bed was the perfect spot!  We had to baby it a bit, watering 2 or 3 times a day, but as of today it is loaded with blooms.
Pulling out the wildflowers left a void in the middle of the bed, so like any good gardener I went plant shopping.  I found these  yellow melampodium along with a couple of bright zinnias.  I love to plant seeds, so in front of the wooden trellis I planted tall zinnia seeds.  Then anticipating those flowers wanted to fall, I stuck in a small iron..well, I don't know what it really is..just thought it might hold up leaning zinnias!
After pulling up the wildflowers, the lantana started growing and blooming was close behind.  Such pretty colors!
I am really satisfied with the clean up of this right side.  Before long the Texas Star will bloom as will the tall zinnias.  It is a much neater look, but still using the Texas cottage flowers that I love.

Looking good!
You know those small campaign signs that appear in people's yards in an election year - after the election, ask if you can have some of them. After you take the campaign sign off, you have a neat little metal prop for flowers that lean over! See, there is some good coming from the election afterall!
Happy gardening!

Those bright yellow, red and orange blooms will be a match for the hot Texas sun.

the foliage of ht Texas star hibiscus already looks good in that pit, before it has even started flowering.

Lea--what a great idea! I always have something in my garden about to fall over. Thanks for your comment, and Happy Gardening to you too!

NS--Thanks! I can't wait to see the Texas Star blooming. It did so/so in the pond, but just didn't have the room it needed. You are sure right about the colors matching our hot sun. It was well into the 90's today!

I see lots of yellow and orange going on in your garden, which really suits your hot, Texas garden. I thought that was a bamboo, not a hibiscus! I know it's too hot there in Texas, but summers are too short here, so I try to enjoy every hot minute!

Love it. Lantana is so pretty. I've been trying to get the red. I do have lavender & white in separate pots. In fact the lavender one had an arm that rooted so now I have two of them.

Robin--actually, I don't hate our summers..they are just harder as I get older. But...I still love all the sun and relax feel of long summer days! (I will post a picture of the Texas Star as soon as it blooms!)

Lola--I am with you--LOVING Lantanas! Of course, my love of red and yellow make those colors my favorites!
