Saturday things..

Do you see this..it is sun!! Today is the first time I have seen the sun in a month. We are so grateful for all the rain, but cloudy and dreary every day really gets to a gardener. I was ready to get out in the garden today when I saw the bright sun!
This pretty yellow daisy is one of my favorites. I bought it last spring to put in a red ceramic container (you know me with my red and yellow in the garden!) It has bloomed continually all summer. I did have to water it twice a day during the hot summer days, but that was not a problem.
Have you noticed I keep calling this pretty little thing an "it?" Well, it's because I forgot what it was! Is it an Englemann Daisy? I always keep the plant tag that comes with plants when I buy them, but guess I lost this one. Look closely at the petals--does this look like a cutleaf to you?
Remember this? I didn't know exactly what it was-and I still don't know. Some of you thought asparagus, Robin thought it looked like her sea shell cosmos, and Cindy thought it was probably just a weed. Well-I didn't know..and decided I didn't care. This plant was taking up too much room in my wildflower bed. So, today it was cut down. I still needed height in that bed, so--I did what all good gardeners do, I went shopping!
And this is what I found at Lowes. It is just a plain wooden trellis, but I think it was just what I needed. The green looks really good against the fence.
The trellis looks pretty lonely right now, but what you can't see is that this bed is full of little seedings. Bluebonnets Mexican Hat Coreopsis, Coneflower rosettes and who know what else.
Winter may find this bed rather dull, but I am hoping spring will put on a beautiful show of blooms to make this new trellis happy.
What did you do this Saturday? Hope it was a good one for you too!

That's a nice arbor Linda. I look forward to seeing all the plants coming up in that bed. I know it will look great!

The sun keeps teasing us with a sighting every once in a while but seriously we're still waiting for an all dayer!

Can't work in the yard yet due to all the mushy wetness. Hopefully soon!

What a great trellis. It looks super cool!!!
Your yellow flowers look pretty blooming too(-:
I wondered what that plant was too(-: It sure looked like asparagus to me.

Still looking so so good! Yesterday was gorgeous!! I spent the afternoon in the park at a 2 year olds birthday party...it was great to watch the children playing and hear them squealing happy squeals in the sunshine :-)

Susie, glad you like the trellis. Our yard in back is nothing but a bog--as are the beds. I can trim things, and pull weeds, etc--but just being out and enjoying the sun was pure delight! :)

Cindee--glad you like the trellis. I can't wait for wildflowers to grow all around it! I never found out for sure what the plant was, but it just got too big. I may dig up the roots and move it somewhere else eventually.

JJ--looks like today may be a repeat of yesterday, whoo-hoo!
So little niece turned 2? Time sure flies by these days!

Pretty yellow daisy and it sure matches the sun; which finally showed up here too. I don't know the type. It looks kind of like a marguerite daisy. Nice new arbor to cheer you up in the garden. I just planted some bluebonnet seeds so I hope they come up and grow. I remember yours and they are just too sweet.

I'll compare the petals and foliage to marguerties Tina-thanks for the suggestion.
I hope your bluebonnet seeds come up! I got some free seeds from the Wildseed Farm (for ordering) and scattered them here and there. No telling what is coming up in my beds--I just know not to pull anything that looks like a weed, because it might be a flower! :)

Engelmann's daisy is a spring bloomer but peters out in summer. I believe you've got a euryops daisy, AKA Mexican shrub daisy, there.

Pam, I was hoping you would see this post because I knew you would be able to identify this! And, I remember the work "Mexican" in the name, but didn't pick up on the word "shrub" so couldn't find it on the internet. Thanks so much! I really like this plant--hope it's a perennial! :)

Ooh I love your new tuteur Linda! I've been eyeballing those at Lowes for the past couple of years. ;) It looks great in that corner as well. Are you going to plant a vine on it?

Your new little trellis is perfect. It looks very old fashioned, and I love that look!

Racquel, I don't know for sure what I will do with it. I thought it would look good just among happy wildflowers, but I love vines too. I just don't want something that creates shade--but if I kept a vine contained with the trellis, maybe it would work.

Nola, guess that is why it appealed to me. I love anything old fashioned! I am such a country bumpkin! :)

Love that new obelisk {I believe that is what it's called}. I've wanted one of those forever. I will have to check out Loew's.
Since you cut the mystery plant down---looking at the stalks--I don't believe it to be Asparagus. I think I've seen this {weed} plant but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. I think yours got so big because of the rich planting soil that you have. If you ID it please let me know the name.

Lola, I will definetly let you know. I hated to cut it down as it gave such definition to this area, but I can't have something block the sun since wildflowers need so many hours of it. Maybe one of these days I'll find out for sure what it is.

I love your trellis, tuteur, obelisk ..whatever you call it. I have a white one in my woods and everyone comments about it.
the plant looked like asparagus.

Hi Balisha! I still don't know what I will do with the trellis..aka lots of other names..but I have all winter to decide.
The vote is so mixed on the plant I cut down. It's not gone, just cut. Maybe next year I'll figure it out. I am thinking I will move it over the winter.

I think sweet peas would look smashing on the new T/T/O! It does look good against the fence, even without anything on it.
