I spent a very busy, but very happy weekend. My daughter was in town..with her fiance!!!
They met in grad school at UVA and have dated about 3 years now. He took her to Boston on a snowy weekend in late January. As they walked down a very pretty street, with snow falling all around , he got down on one knee and proposed. How romantic!! Of course, her daddy knew this was going to happened...but he kept the secret so I could be surprised. They have decided to get married in Dallas, so we spent the weekend looking at reception sites. And today (sniff, sniff) she tried on wedding dresses. My mother went with us.... 3 generations together experiencing a very special moment.

And, I received an award from Debbi at Aunt Debbi's Garden! Thank you Debbi--you put the finishing touch on a wonderful weekend. All I have to do is tell 6 things that make me happy:
1. My wonderful husband
2. Hearing my kids laughter when they are all together
3. Planting a seed, and watching it turn into a beautiful flower
4. Camping high up in the Rocky Mountains
5. Taking my Mother to the Arboretum
6. And of course, the sight of my beautiful daughter walking out of the dressing room in a wedding dress.
So tell me...what things make YOU happy???

Well, lots of things make me happy. By the way, she's gorgeous and radiant. I don't think anything quite calms me in the happy way the garden does, though. The solitude of weeding or working in the dirt is just balm for the soul.

Brenda, aside from the happiness that comes from my family, digging in the dirt keeps me happy and fullfilled!
What a beautiful couple, and I was going to ask you if she was getting married in your area-now I know. Did she find a dress? P.S. Congrats on your award!
Tina-I thought they would get married in either DC or Va, but she wanted to get married here. She found a dress that we all loved--she wants to look a couple of more places in DC just to make sure there is nothing eles she likes better. As you well know....it's going to be a little more challenging planning this long distance! But we'll do it! :)
Congrats to the beautiful couple! Nothing makes me happier than knowing my family is happy and healthy; listening to my fav music; and working in my yard! Have a great week!
Linda, they are a really cute couple! How romantic his proposal to her sounded. How nice that you three got to look for wedding dresses together. I know that had to be a special time.
You have some wonderful things to cherish Linda. Lots of things make me happy such as my healthy children, gardening, reading a good book and my dear hubby of course!
Oh I almost forgot to say Congrats to your daughter & her romantic fiance! What a lovely way to propose, a nice story she'll be able to share with her children & grandchildren someday. :)
It sounds like there's lots of excitement in your future! May your daughter and her intended have many happy years together. And when the stress of wedding planning gets to you, take a walk in your garden and let its beauty bring you peace.
I'm way behind on reading posts ... thanks for the info on SMALL GARDENS. I need to look for that!
Nola-sounds like besides our gardens, families are what brings us happiness. I hope you have a good week too!
Thanks Susie--they are cute together. We had a special time watching her try on those dresses..sigh :)
Thanks Racquel--sounds like the same things make you happy. I like to read too..do you ever read murder mysteries??? I love to solve those crimes! :)
Cindy--glad to hear from you. I hope your ski trip was fun.
I have a feeling I will spend many days in the garden... :)
