Stop that!

Is anyone else going crazy because of mosquitoes I can't walk outside without being swarmed! And here's the worse part--I am never bothered by mosquitoes. They like my husband, not me! So what is going on guys!
I am trying everything.
I use these lanterns that burn a candle and a little pad that I guess is soaked with off. The smoke is suppose to keep the mosquitoes away from you.

Yeah, right!

I try citronella candles like this one....

Umm....no!

I just knew this would be the trick, garden incense sticks. Well, they smell wonderful if you like herbal scents, which I do, but not sure how good they are keeping mosquitoes away.

They are not cheap, so I don't burn them very often. The nice thing is that they burn for hours.

Jury is still out on these..

We keep the chiminea going since we heard mosquitoes do not like the smoke or smell of pinon wood. Un-huh...they are hanging out right by the chiminea enjoying the cozy fire!
I guess this is closet to the best thing I have tried. It's a Herbal Insect Repellent by Burt's Bees. Among lots of ingredients are: rosemary oil, lemongrass oil, clove oil, peppermint oil and citronella oil. You do have to re-apply it , but it smells good and seems to keep the pesky things away somewhat.
I keep a dunk in the pond, empty the birdbath everyday, and make sure there is no standing water. I don't know what to do, but I am declaring war!!

Anybody have a sure fire remedy?

Bless your heart. So far, my backyard is mesquito free, for once. In the past, I've had a neighbor who wasn't as diligent at keeping standing water under control and the pests were coming from there. Sorry to say, never really came up with a good "area" solution. I had to use repellents on me. This year though all has been well.

jj-- I think your mosquitoes came over to my house to visit! :)
Repellent is probably the only answer since we can't spray because of the pond.

It must be a Texas thing. We are covered up in mosquitos and knats.

Debbi--I think, no, I KNOW they are worse now than in the summer. Guess it's rain from Ike!

Lots of skeeters here too. (Not my friend Skeeter:), I use Off. It works.

I wish I had a remedy. They love me! I hate it but I have to use Cutter to keep them at bay.

Funny thing is, they don't bother my husband at all.

It must be all the rain you got from Ike and your weather is still probably quite warm which they seem to prefer. I had problems earlier this summer, but no problems now. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful.

Tina--you are probably right on using OFF. I am always looking for an herbally repellent and they probaly don't work as well.

Susie--yeah, like I told Tina, I need to use the "other stuff" and not be so picky. I have to be really careful not to spray it around the pond though. That stuff kills fish!

pgl--oh I am just whinning. Most people are use to them, I am not. And I'm sure it's the rain. They are just such a nusiance right now!

I guess that's one benefit of the dry summer we've had here in Central Ohio, I've seen nary a mosquito! I have to admit our small town fogs for mosquitos overnight about once a week. It works! I was concerned about it killing off other bugs, but they say they use something organic, and I have to believe them. The butterflies and such are rampant, so it seems like good stuff. Lucky us!

msrobin--I wish I knew what they used. I have to be careful because of the little goldfish pond I have, but something organic would be perfect! Let me know if you ever find out!
Thanks for visiting! :)

Skin so Soft by Avon. I have used it for years and a small dab does it. I find that if I use too much, I am uncomfortable. Hunters use it too. I have to take a large doses of oral B12 for an ailment and they don't seem to like that either. Best of luck!

BJ--really??? Skin so soft keeps mosquitoes away--I am going to try that!! Funny you mention the B12.
I take vitamins that contain a pretty good amount of B12. I have been out for about a month--just about the same time the mosquitoes started liking me...hum.....
Thanks so much--and thanks for visiting!
