Winter

It is a beautiful day! The sky is blue, the birds are singing and the pansies are looking happy. I guess it's in the mid to upper 50's. Yesterday the high was 68! So what am I doing today? Why I am making a list!
Ingredients for soup - check!
New package of hot chocolate - check!
Chocolate chip cookies - in the oven
Plants inside - oops, not yet!

Can ya tell what is coming?
For some reason our spring like winter days are turning into true winter overnight tonight. An arctic front is on the way.. darn it!
Tomorrow at this time there will be a cold rain, perhaps mixed with snow. Before the end of next week the low will be 19.. double darn!
Here we go again on this roller coaster ride with our Texas winters..
one day it's gorgeous, the next day it snows. We are suppose to be in a deep freeze all next week, but looking at a long range forecast, week after next should find us back in the low 60's! So...bring it on Mother Nature--I am ready for you! I can handle this cold I hate so much. But..if anyone needs me, you'll find me sitting by the fire drinking hot chocolate eating chocolate chip cookies!
Stay warm y'all!

Hello Linda girl ! Happy New Year !
I am envious of your pansies .. we are under the snow , but then again we should be .. and your weather is so unpredictable too ?
That blue sky is so pretty .. can I borrow it for a while ? LOL
I love the scenario of hot chocolate and cookies .. great idea !!

Sounds like you will be nice and comfy...warm soup, cocoa, and a chocolate chip cookie. Sounds good to me.Balisha

Hi Joy! Right now it is pouring rain--not cold enough for snow, but still too cold to want to go out. The pansies will love this rain, but later in the week they will be stressed over the low temps. It shouldn't be cold long enough to hurt them though--I hope, I hope! :)

Balisha--I am making the soup this afternoon and plans are to sit by the fire most of the day. Funny thing is--I have such a hard time sitting still. I like to always be doing something! (that is why your post the other day was so good for me--better go read it again!) :)

....and now it's snowing - so glad you took the reports seriously! We just never know what's gonna happen ...like in 2010-snow on the first day of Spring and record high for the first day of winter. Hope this isn't an indication of a year of roller coaster weather...oh well, all we can do is be ready...lol. I started a pot of pinto beans and will fix cornbread to go with it later this evening after a day of hot chocolate, reading, and crocheting snuggled under my blanket :-)

JJ-soup is cooking, but no hot chocolate yet. I did make Belgian waffles for breakfast though. Think I am driving Bert crazy! heh/heh
It is a good day for crocheting..and I have a newly started Linus blanket sitting right here! :) Stay warm!

Love those flowers but hate it's a bit nippy for them.
Hot chocolate & cookies sound marvelous. Got my crochet here also.
A bit to cold to be outside.
Walked around flea market with son & girl friend awhile today. It was so windy & cold I couldn't feel my legs. Just as well at least I couldn't feel the pain.lol

Stay warm Linda and hope you found a good book to read. :)

Good morning Racquel! Actually I did have a good book to read--finished it last night. It is sunny today, but cold with wind chills in the teens.

I was worried about what the arctic blast might mean for my corner of Katy but I think we'll get by with just a freeze. You mentioned good mysteries. I like the Lauren Willig books, beginning with THE SECRET OF THE PINK CARNATION. They must be read in order, mind you.

Cindy, have you read Susan Wittig Albert's "China Bayles" mysteries? They are so good..take place in Texas too. Go in order as well..first one is "Thyme of Death."

I read your question on another blog about the African Violets. Yes, do remove all spent blooms & leaves as well. I have all mine on my end tables with light on all day. I have the new bulbs in the lamps as they don't get as hot but provide the proper light. I love mine.
Good luck.

Lola--yes, that was on Cindee's blog (soo glad she is back!) What do you mean the leaves too? All I removed was the little stem the flower was on. I can see all kinds of buds under all the current blooms. I have 2 of mine on a window sill (no sun hits them though) and the 3rd under a light as you do. How about watering?
Thanks so much!

Linda, yours may not do it but sometimes a bottom leaf may start to turn brown so I just take it off. I don't want it to cause a problem for the plant. They can't take direct sun. Try to water from the bottom. If not possible try not to get any water on the leaves. It causes them to turn brown & rot. Mine are blooming now but they do need to be re-potted. Maybe later when it gets much warmer.
Do you have the 2 piece pots? That's what I have so I just keep water in the bottom. Fertilizer is put in the water. I use a gal. milk jug {cleaned very good} to mix my water & fertilizer in. I let it set for a day or 2 as I have chlorine in my water.
Enjoy & good luck.

I personally enjoy these mild Southern Winters. Although, I am seeing more and more of the cold nights in the past two years. Burrrr, hot soup and hot chocolate sound good. Must be about supper time...

Hey, that thistle sock on our feeders is protected from the squirrels with a baffle on the feeder pole.....

Meadowview Thymes said...

Skeeter--I like the warmer winters too, maybe a quick snow, but love the warm ups--that is just not happening with this front. Everything is still frozen, and I am pretty concerned about my bulbs!
Thanks for the answer on the socks. Squirrels get to everything in our yard--they are driving me crazy! :)

I love your winter pansies, and I hope the snow didn't come!
