Old Man Winter

The last 2 days have been beautiful!! Yesterday was especially pretty, which gave me the opportunity to get out and do some winter clean up. Little Benjamin bunny supervised as I worked cutting back a few things and watering wildflower rosettes.
I have decided that I really like kale. Isn't it pretty in the old wash tub? I am going to make a note in my gardening journal to buy more next year. But..of course, these spring like days are not going to last! Old Man Winter is returning--and returning with force. The forecasters are telling us that Alaska is sending us a cold front that might bring ice on Tuesday and frigid temps. The low Thursday night will be 14. Really! Texas weather is so fickled!
Oh well--I don't care. I am making more soup, oatmeal cookies this time--and-- planting seeds indoors! I always start nasturtiums inside so they are ready to go outside in early spring. I use the fiber containers so when the time comes, I can plant without disturbing the roots. Kind of ironic though..one of the nasturtium seeds I am planting is appropriately named "Alaska!"

Thanks Tina! I do love that old wheelbarrow that belonged to my Dad.

Meemsnyc--and I love the old washtub too! Can ya tell I am really into using old, rusty things in the garden! :)

Texas and it's weather - what a combination!!! You never can tell what will happen.

We're waiting for a blizzard and here I am looking at your very cute wheelbarrow. Seems hard to believe that when I look out my window at the never ending snow, someone else is enjoying warm weather and flowers. Have a nice day today...Balisha

Anon--you are so right! Living in Texas has its ups and downs that is for sure! :)
Waiting for spring!!

Balisha--well, the sunny day and pretty flowers are gone today (Tues) as we are icy and cold! The lows will be getting into single didgets--just hope the pansies can survive. They don't expect the ice to melt for about 3 days.

Oh, your containers look wonderful. Sure wish mine had not bit the dust.
Sure hope the weather doesn't hurt things too much.
Stay warm.

Lola-it was about 10 degrees this morning, so the containers may have not survived. I covered all the pansies that I could as I read on the Aggie Horticulture website they may or may not survive such cold temps. The thing is, we are not going to be above freezing until Sat--I am afraid I may lose quite a few things. sigh....

That is a beautiful container Linda. I really like Kale too.

We are getting some bad weather tonight so I can empathize with you.
