Tiny Herb Garden

We usually have a small veggie garden, but this year our garden area is "under con-
struction." I miss the tomatoes, peppers, and onions. But I decided to make up for that loss I would create a tiny herb garden in the back. This is it, and although small--it is flourishing!
I have spearmint, pineapple mint, lemon mint and lemon balm. It has all kind of grown together-which I love. WARNING: grow mints in containers unless you want them to take over!!
This is chives (bring on those baked potatoes!) and thyme. (one of many-I love thyme!)

The parsley started out slow, but is finally looking good-as is the basil. This is boxwood basil. It is a mounding plant with tiny leaves that can be used in pesto.
There is a small rosemary plant in the left corner of this picture, and, I couldn't stand to not have sweet banana peppers this summer, so I bought one little plant. Looks like I can pick for the next salad!
Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

Beautiful herb garden! I'm always pleasantly stunned by your different "areas", especially knowing you have a small backyard. My oldest is growing spearmint this year (in a pot) and I am really really enjoying it and the scent...I bet it smells amazing around all your herbs - they look GREAT!!

Love your herb garden! Basil reseeds so easily here. I grew them in one pot and collected lots of seeds at the end of year, as I didn't want to lose them, but they didn't give me that trouble. This spring I saw basil growing almost in every other pot - I had to in fact pull some out!!!
I love banana peppers - not sure if they'd grow in my area - should look up. We make a delicious snack with them called 'Bajji'! Yummm!
I've always wanted to try mint and parsley. Your post reminds me how far behind I am...

Thanks JJ. This is just a tiny area, but really all I need. Karen (well, really her mom) gave me the pineapple mint so it is very special.
Chandramouli-- I didn't know basir would re-seed! That means I will have more next year! Seems like I always remember something I
should have planted and didn't. Guess there is always next year!

Thanks Deb! No veggie garden for us this year. I like to buy from local farmers though..so it's ok.

Love those herbs. I had some just outside my kitchen door. Sure nice to smell each time the door was opened. All in large pots of course.

One of the books I recently read involved a person in retail marketing. He would constantly be redoing his displays. It seems like you must do a lot of redoingv in your backyard - always something new and interesting!!!

I love herbs too Lola. This little space is close to the door, but I would love to have a nice herb garden right outside the kitchen door like you do. What are you growing?

MR--you know me well! I change and move around and buy more...such as a gardener's like goes I guess! :)

You have a nice looking herb garden. My herb garden isn't very big, either, but I also have some in pots next to it. I quit growing lemon balm in it, although it found other areas to grow in. I try to let some grow, but keep pulling it out in the areas it spreads to. One of these days, I may decide to wage war and not let any grow. I had planted some in a pot that lived a few years, but I don't remember what happened to it. I wouldn't think it would have died.

I grow mints in pots, too.

I hope your work in the veggie garden area is going well.

I love your pretty little Herb Garden. This is something I really need to add to my garden. Time to make a new bed huh? lol :) My Sweet Banana Peppers are quite prolific right now. I just bought two and I think that will be more than enough.

Fresh herbs are the best. They look great and now I have a hankering for baked potatoes.

Hey Linda, I love growing herbs too! We have chocolate mint growing everywhere. It has crept into our lawn which is okay with me. Everytime I step on it the smell is wonderful.

Hi Sue-I do like growing herbs in containers. That works well for smaller spaces. I love mints--and would love to grow several types. Maybe next year!

Racquel--I see a new bed in your garden next year! :) I love banana peppers and knew I would miss them the most. I usually only buy 2 plants and that is plenty. My little plant probably needs to be in the ground, but it's producing, so that is what counts.

I agree Tina--fresh herbs are the best. (along with fresh veggies which I also love!) I miss out little garden, but love buying from local farmers too.

Susie--ummmmm, stepping on that mint in the grass sounds wonderful. I walk by one of mine and just brushing against it smells so good! I may buy more varieties next year. I just love mints!

I have a few herbs but most are for the butterflies:) I do sneak a few sprigs sometimes for myself.

Your herb garden looks great. I would like to have something like that.

What a pretty little herb garden. Looks like you've got a good selection of the essentials. I don't grow veggies, but I always grow a few herbs.

Marnie--I have dill growing over by the butterfly weed (milkweed) for the butterflies, but they are welcome to most things in my garden. Like you--I love to see the butterflies visit my garden!

Nola--we don't have room for a big veggie garden-and it's not easy to water, so I am content with the herbs this year. I know hubby misses the tomatoes though so we will probably get it ready for next year.
