Saturday at the Arboretum

The wind here Saturday was un-
believable. The gust would blow you away, but it was worth being blown around a bit to see the beauty of the Dallas Arboretum. There were tulips in every color!
Some of the flowers were still in bud, others were starting to open..
..some were in full bloom!
Love this bed of yellow tulips with yellow daffs.
And speaking of daffodils--I loved this ruffled variety. Note to self: buy some of these bulbs this fall!
But what really "blew me away", were the cherry trees! I have been going to the arboretum for years and years, every season, but I have never seen the cherry trees in full bloom. This was the year! They were absolutely gorgeous!
The Arboretum has 17 trees, and according the the newspaper, better see them this Saturday as in 3 days, the blooms will all be gone.
This picture doesn't show the color--you really had to get the sun behind you to capture the luscious light pink of the cherry blossoms.
I felt like I was in a fairy land..all pink and fluffy. What a treat to see these beauties. I see now why so many flock to Washington DC to witness the blooms. Maybe one day I will...hey, I have a daughter in DC! I think I may pay her a visit during Cherry Blossom time next year. Oh Jen, can we get that on the calender??

You're pictures are FANTASTIC!! love the blooming cherry trees. Since I probably won't be able to make out to see the actual blooms, I really appreciate your wonderful pics....note to Jen: don't encourage your mother we don't want her bolting any sooner than she already is!

JJ--I hope you can show the pics to your mom. It was so pretty, but it always is. (lol on note to Jen) :)

Gorgeous pics. Never heard of the ruffles buttercups. They sure are pretty.

That place is so pretty! I can see why you love visiting there.

Can you imagine planting all those tulip bulbs?!?!? Oh my aching back! lol

Susie, wish you could see the Arboretum. It really is beautiful!
Yeah..I wonder who plants all those bulbs. The soil is so good though, unlike the clay at my house. I bet the bulbs are not hard to plant, but there are sooo many of them. Ohhh, my aching back too! :)

Lola--Happy Birthday to you!
I am going to look up those ruffled daffs in my books. I'll let you know if I find them.

Robin, wish I could have taken you with me! It is always pretty, but those cherry trees just made my day! Do you have those trees in Ohio?

Sounds like a plan to me. Great colors and if your pictures did not do justice I can't imagine what they look like LIVE!!! HMMMMM .. I remember a phrase ... Is it Memorex or is it live?

I think the cherry trees are like the most beautiful flowering spring tree. Your photos look great. The tulips are the best too. I had one finally bloom and that one bloom is now gracing my table. Poor thing:) Glad you saw the cherry blooms. Good time of the year to visit an arboretum!

Yes, Do put the DC visit on your calendar! They are so worth the trip in their full glory. I hear this weekend may be the time for them to hit their peak. We had been closely watching the Cherry blossoms in Macon,GA before we took our trip over there. I did not want to go if they would not be in bloom. I find the yellow daffy on yellow tulips together interesting…

My tulips have unfortunately been duds this year.

Tina, I never knew the cherry tree's were so pretty. I always liked Bradford Pears, but wow those cherry bloosoms.
The arboretum has something different everytime you go. That's why I try and go as much as I can!

Awww--that is sweet of you to say MR. My camera is not the best, so I am really glad you thought the pictures were good. I still don't think they did justice to the beauty of those blooms. They were just stunning!

Skeeter, yes, my dd said this was suppose to be "the weekend" for the cherry blossoms. I need to play a trip to DC next year.
Did you think the daffs and tulips were too much yellow? I love yellow so much, and with the texture being so different I kind of liked it, but I bet there are other tulips in there that just haven't bloomed yet. Probably red..

Brenda--some of my tulips were duds too. Do you think it was the weather? I chilled mine...did what I should, so I thought. ugh...hate it when plants don't cooperate! :)

Your photos are fantastic, makes me want to go back there, now!
I did not know until my last visit that cherry trees grew this far south! Now, of course, I want one! Hope you have a blessed Easter.

Beautiful! I wish Dallas weren't quite so far from Austin so I could pop over and see them in person.

Nola, I don't ever remember seeing these trees--as many times as I have gone to the arboretum over the years! Blooms will be gone now..they only last a short time!
Happy Easter to you too!

Pam--we should try and get a garden bloggers group to meet at the arboretum sometime! It is beautiful, but I also love Lady Bird Johnson's in Austin. I like that native, wild look that is missing from the arboretum.

I'd love to see the cherry trees in bloom in DC, too! I think a visit next year is definitely in order.

Cindy, yep! I think you are right!
