It has been a busy time out in the garden, but we now have one project checked off our list. One of the beds along the fence in back needed to be enlarged a bit. The curve was too severe, and I could use more room for flowers. We had to remove the existing sand stone bricks carefully so the wildflowers I have growing would not be disturbed.
After moving the bed out from the fence and redesigning the curve, I filled in the new area with a mixture of top soils.
I was really pleased with the new look..now on to plants!
Behind this little gate are larkspurs getting ready to put out their buds. I seeded these in fall with heirloom seeds given to me by a special friend. I have never grown these flowers before, but know they will get really tall so I needed something short for the front..and something that can take really hot sun. Traveling to a couple of garden centers I found one of my favorites already in stock--Blackfoot Daisies. Perfect!
In front of the verbena I planted (close to the edge) Laura Bush Petunias (also given to me by a special friend!) Hopefully they will spill out over the bricks and not interfere with the verbena.
I can just picture the tall colorful Larkspurs behind the Blackfoots!
And since we are visiting this area--how about those Blue-
bonnets! Yum!!!!
Happy Spring everyone--have a wonderful weekend!

The redesign looks amazing!! Looking forward to seeing pictures once it's blooming with flowers :-)
Thanks JJ. Hope the petunias do bloom--they can be really spectacular!
Boy, what a difference. It's amazing what moving bricks around will do.
Hope the flowers do what you want them to. My volunteer petunias are blooming already. They are in window boxes hanging on the chain link fence.
That looks amazing! Nice job! I have that same project that I also need to do!
The blue and purples are wonderful. It's so nicely tiered and looks really good.
Lola-I wish I could have petunias in my kitchen window box, but it's way too shady.
meemsync--the hardest part was digging up the grass. We have clay soil--so it is really tough. I was happy to be able to put good dirt in the new bed!
My, you have been busy! That looks so nice - really pretty! Over the years I kept nibbling away at the sod as borders and beds just 'somehow' seemed to expand. :)
Yay more space for plants!!! Great redesign. :)
Oh Tina thank you!! I work on these things and sometimes wonder "what would Tina think about this?" Glad you like the colors too.
Barbee--it was so hard getting that sod out! Hubby did most of that part, as he was planning on using it out in the yard. Glad this project is over, but there are sure lots more to do! :)
I know it is good to get it out of the way. And with the work done it looks like a pretty satisfying job. Way to go!!!
Racquel--there is always room for more plants, right! :)
Thanks MR! The enlarged bed is already looking really nice!
Looks lovely! I can't wait to see the flowers blooming(-:
The blue bonnets are so pretty too!
We are going to have Sun next week! I can hardly wait!!!!!
Thanks Cindee. I think the little bit of added space will look pretty this summer, Yea for your sun! It has turned cloudy and cool here...but still no rain. :(
How beautiful! That verbena is stunning...
Looking good! I love those Texas Bluebonnets! I sprinkled some seeds my dad gave me but they did not come up, Sigh....
Verbena is an awesome plant! Mine has been with me since I first started the Semi-Formal garden. It does not require too much and gives a lot, that is my kind of plant....
You already have such lovely blue tones going on, so the larkspurs will be the perfect touch! I'm trying them myself this year, but we are WAY behind up here. It's too early to even plant them.
Linda girl that is a gorgeous curvy bed for loads of beautiful plants ! .. You are way ahead of me (but again we just started to thaw out ? haha) There always are Spring projects to accomplish and I better get into action soon or the summer will be on us with that heat and humidity .. great to get one off the list and have it look so pretty
Thanks Valerie--I am loving this verbena too! :)
Skeeter--I soak my bluebonnet seeds overnight before planting. Maybe you could try that, but the bonnets may only grown here in Texas. They are lupines, and I know there are other lupines you could grow.
Robin--I am worried about the Larkspurs. I see others that are tall and budding. Mine are still short and no buds, but look healthy. I am going to be really disappointed if they don't produce flowers!
Thanks so much Joy! Right now I am kind of overwhelmed at how much I have (want!) to do! Can't seem to fit it all in! :)
