A Beautiful Blooming Saturday

It's a beautiful chilly Saturday here in the Dallas area. We had our first cold front move through last night. No freeze..yet! They are warning us to move the plants in tonight though, so later today I will be moving the containers onto the patio and covering them up for the night. My patio offers good protection for plants especially if they are covered, and unless it gets in the 20's, they can survive the winter there.
Carol at May Dream Gardens hosts Gardener's Bloom Day on the 15th of each month (thank you Carol!), so after getting 2 loaves of pumpkin bread in the oven this morning, I decided to take a quick walk outside to see what is still blooming. This pretty is the Christmas Cactus my neighbor gave me. I carried her outside to take a good picture. Can you believe all the blooms! She is going back in, it's too cold out here for her!
Tiny star creeper continues to bloom. I love seeing the tiny flowers peak out under all the leaves.

Mexican Milkweed continues to have blooms. This picture is blurry because the wind is blooming so hard I couldn't get the plant to stop moving!
The Lavender (Pinata) is in full bloom.

Look what I found hiding in one of the beds!
This is probably the last day for cosmos blooms, but they will be back next year!

I continue to have beautiful blooms on the geraniums. These will be plants moved to the patio and covered later today. If it gets really cold, they will come inside.

And finally, one last look at the zinnias (profusion). I am pulling them up and putting pansies in their place. This has without a doubt been my favorite annual flower this past year.

I can't say winter is around the corner, here in Texas you never know when it will arrive, but on a blustery day like today, you are reminded that it will not be long before we can only dream about blooms and digging in the dirt. We will sit in front of the fire where it is warm, drink hot chocolate, and look through our gardening books waiting for the first signs of spring.

Bloom Day--one day early

Tomorrow is Bloom Day hosted by Carol at
May Dream Gardens. I am a day early--hope that is ok Carol.

My garden definitely looks like a very late summer garden.

The cypress vine in with morning glories has been a delight for me. I know these are annuals and will not last (although I hear cypress vine re-seeds well) , but I think they will enjoy the cooler weather and be around for a while.

Obedient Plant--no worries, it's not going anywhere it shouldn't. It's in a container!

The Liriope is in full bloom right now. We have several around the yaupon hollies

Coneflower White Swan just doesn't stop blooming. One of my favorites!

Look what I found--several volunteer begonias...

...and little purple flowers on the Mexican Petunia.

I moved the Geraniums to the back as they were getting hot and tired on the front porch. And looked what happened--one started immediately blooming.

Remember me complaining about my Black-foot Daisies? Well...look at these. They came back and are one of the best plants in my garden! And oh the wonderful fragrance!

Turks cap was not very happy with all the rain from Ike.

The yellow and orange cosmos are still going strong.

The zinnias got really pounded from Ike's visit, but I still have quite a few blooms.

And just a few rudbeckia's remain.

Other things blooming:
Profusion zinnias
Coreopsis (cream brulee)
Snapdragon (can you believe it has a few blooms!)
Butterfly Weed
Purple coneflower
Impatients
Gerber Daisy
Lantana (Hardy)
Lavender (Pinata--just starting to bloom again)
Salvia Greggi (red)
I hope you have something wonderful and pretty blooming in your yard today!

Garden Blogger's Bloom Day

Carol at May Dreams Garden invites garden bloggers to participate in Garden Blogger's Bloom Day (GBBD) the 15th of every month. Since I am pretty new to blogging--this will be my first time to share what's blooming in my yard for GBBD.

This is butterfly weed. No caterpillars yet!

The crepe myrtles are still looking pretty.

This is a pink Mexican Petunia. The blooms only last one day. They are such a pretty shade of pink.

Cream Brulee Coreopsis that I have grown to love! It has done fantastic in this heat.

My favorites--Black-eyed Susans. They are in almost every flower bed I have and in vases inside the house.

First year for profusion zinnias. I will definitely plant them next year!

Pass-along Phlox from my Mother is still looking pretty and smelling good!

Blackfoot Daisy. Some lived, others did not. Why,why, why???

The great purple coneflowers They stand proud and tall against the Texas heat.

And, the best picture from the garden----the rain gauge. It rained 2 1/2 inches this morning!!
Whoo-hoo!!

What a perfect way to celebrate Bloom Day!
