Well, crispy critters are not really gone...just relocated to the other side of the flower bed that is almost full shade.
They will be much happier here...they have many friends and no more of that hot sun!
Of course that leaves this an empty spot for something. I'm not sure what I will put there next year, but I know what I will put there for today!
Today is seed planting day--Bluebonnet seeds that is. I soaked the seeds overnight (this is just 1 batch, I did more!)
Then Sunday morning I raked through the dirt with my trowel, and scattered the seeds in the bed where the hostas were...
then here in the wildflower bed
Then here in another part of the sunny bed I cleaned out. You just "sow" the seeds, you don't plant them, and you need to keep them watered until they form rosettes. I can't remember how long that took last year. I just know I had pretty little seedlings all winter. Bluebonnets need lots of sun--that's why I think they will work where the hostas were.
It was a wonderful day in the garden, full of hope and anticipation for good things to come!

Your gardens look so pretty. I am sure the hostas will be much happier in shade. What did you use to line the garden? Those rocks?
what are crispy critters? old plants. lol how fun to plant from seed. we did wildflowers and our summer veggie garden that way. now i am waiting on pumpkins.
enjoy your day of hope and have fun.
ps
i have been meaning to tell you i used to be in love with john d.
That's what I've been doing too Linda. Moving things & planting new things. :)
Hey I was going to change my blog over to wordpress but I changed my mind! :)
Yeah! Bluebonnets - I'm looking forward to pictures *wink wink* to watch as they grow :-)
Thanks Tina. I think they already look better. I used sandstone bricks to edge the flower beds. I really like them!
marmee--in July I posted on my "crispy dilemma." We took down a tree which put the hostas in the sun and they turned into crispy critters. :)
Pumpkins!!! Oh how fun!! Be sure and post pictures on your blog.
I am still in love with JD music! I can listen to him sing..and the words of his songs take me to a peaceful, hopeful place that I would love to stay! That's cool you are a fan as well.
pgl--it's that time of the year isn't it. Too risky to move things in the middle of summer. And it's such a good time to find bargains at the garden centers!
Why did you decide not to change your blog?? Something we need to know??
jj-sounds like you would like updates on the progress of seeds..and I will be more than happy to supply you with that information! :)
Just hope I have good things to tell you!
The hostas look much happier now. That is a pretty bed.
I'll be interested in seeing the bluebonnets growing and blooming.
Susie--I think the hostas are much happier now. That was just too much sun for them.
I hope the bluebonnets do well. I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to wildflowers!
Your garden beds look great. I like the little chimanee.
I beleive I will have to try sowing some of those seeds. I've never grown them before.
Crispy critters. LOL
Thanks Eve. We love our chiminea! The pinon wood we burn smells so good!
The crispy critters are getting a tiny bit of rain today. They should be very happy now!
Those blue blonnets will be beautiful come spring.
I hope so Debbi. I'm somewhat concerned about getting rain from Ike. Hope it doesn't wash them away!
I can't wait to see your bluebonnets bloom next spring.(-: If I put my hostas in the sun they would burn up and die)-: I have them in morning filtered sun and so far so good. Sun here is just to hot I guess. We have lupines here too that grow wild. I guess it is time to plant seeds for spring? I want to plant some poppies.
Cindee--I planted poppies last year. They were really pretty. I planted California poppies in Mother's bed and they did great!!! You should try those!
