"It's not easy being green..."

I sat in the swing earlier this morning drinking my coffee thinking of how nice everything in my little backyard looked even though it's the middle of summer. I always take my camera with me on these early mornings outside, and as I tried to think about what "flower" to take a picture of, it dawned on me that while the blooming plants are pretty, it's the "green things" that make this little yard look so lush this early Saturday morning. The Perennial Gardener did a post recently on things ignored in your garden. I thought of her post this morning as I looked around at all the pretty green because I realized what I ignore in my garden is what the garden is made of. It's the basis from where we start. It's the beginning. We add flowers for color, and I love my flowers, but on this Saturday morning, I am loving the green. I love the different shades of green, I love the texture and I love the definition it gives to my yard. It's not easy being green--you are ignored and taken for granted. So, thank you to all the green in my yard for making my little garden look so good this morning!

Your Asparagus Fern looks great. Mine died this year. I need to get another. I like to use it arrangements with my cut flowers.

Laurie, thanks for the compliment, and thanks for the suggestion. That's a great idea. I have cut flowers in my house all the time-and I am always looking for greenery to add! I have to be careful though--touching asparagus fern makes my hands break out!

Thanks Linda mentioning my blog. I love all your shades of green. Your ferns are beautiful and the wandering jew is a lovely contrast to all that greenery. Your garden is looking fantastic!

Thanks for the compliment perennial gardener. It's very hard when you garden in such a small area. I do envy you and others with all your space!

Great idea for a post. You've reminded me not to take my greens for granted either.

Your green is both beautiful and peaceful. Go Green.

Pam,
I am going to try and remember to look at my greens and appreciate them more than I have in the past. The evergreens get me through the winter! I shouldn't forget them in the summer!

I love the wandering jew- I have a few sprigs of that plant that pop up in my front flower bed, but I can never seem to get them to really do much- they seem to break easily but I keep trying! I have much better luck with my aspergus fern- it looks very similar to yours and I keep thinking I should split it up into a couple of pots, it is so huge and bushy!

Saw your comment on TinaTx blog, I live in Garland too! Your garden and all your plants are so beautiful, I am soooo not good at that, most of my free time is spent with needle and thread, lol!

Andrea, wish I had more time to spend with a needle and thread! Thanks for the compliment about my garden. I love garadening--it is my passion. Like I told Tina, I can't believe I found cross-stitchers. I thought it was a lost art. So glad it's still around. Do you go to Aidaworks? Probably the only store around here for XX.
Thanks for visiting my blog!

Yes, I do go to AidaWorks, but not so much anymore with gasoline being so expensive and all...it's just SO far over there. Now my stitching friends and I stick to Needlework Boutique in Plano, it's a bit closer and Lou Ann, the owner, is a very nice gal!

I'm amazed you can get anything at all to grow in this heat, if you could see my yard, you'd know what a talent you have :)
